RE:  Erection and Dedication of World War II Tank Destroyer Society Monument at Fort Hood, Texas

Dear Mr. Boykin

Thank you for your letter of May 21, 2004, regarding the erection and dedication of a World War Il Tank Destroyer Society Monument at Fort Hood, Texas. I agree that an additional monument such as the one you propose will provide additional insight into the unique mission of the Tank Destroyers during World War II. I also support the placement of the monument within the Memorial Park currently under development.

I have discussed the possibilities of placing the monument near the existing large Tank Destroyer monument with an ability to freely walk around the new monument. My designers have stated this is possible and are incorporating the monument into the revised plans. These plans should be reviewed and approved within the next month.

As for the timing of the dedication, I am committed to opening the Memorial Park on Veterans Day, November 11, 2004. I am planning a short opening ceremony of the park itself, then allowing for additional dedications to take place on that day. Though I will not be available personally to be Master of Ceremonies, I am arranging for my successor, Colonel Victoria Bruzese, to do the honors.

Thank you again for requesting permission to place a monument in the New Memorial Park. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Dr. Cheryl L. Huckerby, Cultural Resource Program Manager at (254) 287-1092. A copy of this letter is also being sent to Mr. William Oettle, President, and COL (Ret) Bob French, National Coordinator.

Sincerely,

William H. Parry, III
Colonel, U.S. Army
Garrison Commander
